Get to Know Us

"Black Her Stories is smart, original, and thoughtful.

Black women are often the unsung heroes of their communities. BHS is giving voice to their stories, celebrating their strengths and legacy, but also inspiring future generations to carry their torch forward."

Behind the scenes of nearly every social movement or innovation, there’s a Black woman—often leading from the margins, caring for her family, nurturing communities—yet many of their stories remain untold.

Mainstream history flattens cultural narratives into a box that is predictable, predominantly male, and constantly at risk of being erased.

Black Her Stories is a space to change that.

Through creative engagements — from dinner parties and meet-ups at local bookstores to live storytelling events —, we curate inclusive gatherings that invite people to connect and share stories.

Together, we embrace complexity and recognize the struggles, triumphs, and joys that reveal our shared humanity.

The Alchemy of Sharing Stories

Honoring The Past
While Shaping The Future

At its heart, Black Her Stories (BHS) is about care—care for our stories, our communities, and our culture. As a living archive, BHS honors the Black women who came before us while celebrating the changemakers of today.

Storytelling runs through our veins. It breathes life into every conversatoin, where we explore how creativity, caregiving, personal growth, and collective action shape communities. We look to our elders and ancestors not only for wisdom, but for reminders of who we are and what we carry.

But stories need spaces to be heard, to be witnessed.

Beyond the podcast, BHS creates welcoming spaces that affirm Blackness and invite people of all backgrounds to step out of the ordinary and nourish their creative well-being.

In a world that tries to limit our potential while simultaneously separating us from community, BHS takes up space. It fosters connections. It reclaims our narratives to ensure that we—and future generations—remember us.

" I am blown away by the work of Black Her Stories

Too often we wait until people are gone to recognize their talent and contributions, but Black Herstories is doing the work of paying homage to Black women through a living archive. It’s a vibrant and necessary love letter to Detroit and to Black women, and it’s beautiful to see the community being built through this platform.”
